Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has listed a few things his government will prioritise if elected in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Gachagua said that a section of leaders and Kenyans are questioning why he wants to be the top leader in the country.

According to the former DP,  he will scrap some projects under the current regime as soon as he ascends the presidency.

“Why does Rigathi Gachagua want to be President? If Kenyans elect me as President, if God wishes, I want to do only one thing, that is, to restore the Kenyan state and make sure we restore our health system that when you go to the hospital, there is medicine,” he said on Sunday during a Church Service.

The former DP said that the first thing he will also do is to restore the education system by bringing back free education.

“Rigathi Gachagua wants to restore the dignity of your payslips. Most of your payslips have been raided and you have no purchasing power; that is why you are in trouble.”

Gachagua said that he will ensure Kenyans do not pay the housing levy to restore the dignity of their payslips.

According to him, cases of extrajudicial killings and abductions will be a thing of the past.

“Those are the few things that we shall prioritise,” he added.

This is even as Gachagua has declared that he will contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua said he is determined to be on the ballot, adding that he is both qualified and confident of garnering enough support to mount a serious campaign.

“I am a candidate to be president of the Republic of Kenya. I am qualified, and I have support. I am looking for more support and I will be on the ballot as a candidate for President,” he stated.

Gachagua defended his eligibility despite questions surrounding his impeachment and ongoing legal battles.

He argued that the Constitution provides for every Kenyan to run for elective office as long as legal remedies have not been exhausted.

“The Constitution guarantees your right to vie for elective office even if you have been convicted, if you have not exhausted the remedies available in law. The Supreme Court has not made a ruling on my impeachment,” Gachagua said.
