

Super Metro Limited has confirmed
that on Monday, one of its matatus was involved in a fatal road accident in
Juja, along Thika Superhighway.
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 2, the company said the incident resulted in the death of a motorcyclist, who was
fatally injured after an evasive manoeuvre led him to strike a pavement and fall
in the path of the bus.
According to the statement, the company said the matatu was travelling downhill when a tuk-tuk ahead attempted to change lanes.
"A speeding motorbike
rider, overtaking nearby, swerved to avoid a potential collision but lost control
and was struck by the matatu. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene," the company said.
“A tuk-tuk ahead of the bus attempted to change lanes, prompting a motorbike rider, who was overtaking at high speed, to swerve in an effort to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, the rider struck the pavement, fell, and was fatally injured by the bus.”
Super Metro Limited said the matter
is currently under investigation by Juja Police Station.
The company has pledged full
cooperation with the authorities to support a thorough and transparent inquiry.
“We extend our deepest condolences
to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” read
the company’s statement.
Super Metro reiterated its
commitment to road safety and regulatory compliance, urging any parties seeking
further information to contact Juja Police Station directly.
Following the accident, Boda-boda riders
set ablaze the matatu, sparking a fiery standoff that led to traffic
disruption along the busy highway.
Police arrived at the scene minutes later and found the bus completely burnt.
Police said they are investigating the incident and will take action on
the same.
The body of the rider was picked up and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy, while the wreckage was moved to the local police station.
