Riders set ablaze Super Metro matatu after alleged accident

Boda-boda riders on Monday evening set ablaze a matatu belonging to Super Metro sacco for allegedly knocking down a rider.

The incident happened on Thika Superhighway near Juja Town.

The matatu allegedly hit and killed a rider, sparking a fiery standoff that led to traffic disruptoion along the busy highway.

The vehicle was destroyed beyond repair.  Police are investigating the incident.

Police said the bus was racing to the city centre when it was involved in an accident.

It allegedly knocked and killed a rider. The driver stopped and the passengers disembarked as other riders gathered at the scene.

The riders turned rowdy and attacked the bus setting it on fire.

Police arrived at the scene minutes later and found the bus completely burnt. Police said they are investigating the incident and will take action on the same.

The body of the rider was picked up and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy while the wreckage was moved to the local police station.

Last month, a similar incident happened in Donholm area after a bus killed a rider.

During the August 7 incident, a mob attacked and set on fire a bus that had been involved in a fatal accident in Donholm, Nairobi.

Police said the bus had knocked down and killed a rider before a mob turned on it and set it on fire.

This was after the passengers and crew present escaped from the bus, police said.

The police said they arrived at the scene and found the bus on fire.

A mob that was behind the incident had escaped the scene.
