Morocco, however, quickly regrouped and Youssef Mehri restored parity in the 27th minute. Just before halftime, Oussama Lamlioui put the Atlas Lions ahead in the 44th minute, turning the game on its head.

Madagascar refused to go down without a fight, and Toky Rakotondraibe scored in the 68th minute to level the scores once more, keeping the fans on edge.

But Morocco had the final word. Lamlioui struck again in the 80th minute, sealing a 3-2 win and sending the Kasarani crowd into a frenzy.

The victory crowns Morocco as the champions of CHAN 2024 and marks another historic achievement for the Atlas Lions.

Morocco CHAN history

Morocco has made history as a three-time African Nations Championship (CHAN) winner, claiming the 2024 title to add to their previous triumphs in 2018 and 2020.

They won the 2018 edition in Casablanca (4-0 against Nigeria) and repeated the feat in 2020 (2-0 against Mali).

Since debuting in 2014, Morocco has appeared in CHAN five times, taking part in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and now 2024.

Morocco did not participate in the 2022 edition.

Ranked 12th in the FIFA world rankings, Morocco made history as the first host nation to win CHAN in 2018 and became the first country to secure back-to-back titles with their 2018 and 2020 victories. The team is coached by Tarik Sektioui.

CHAN, short for Championnat d'Afrique des Nations or African Nations Championship, highlights the best domestic football talent across Africa. The 2024 edition ran from August 2 to August 30.
