Earlier this week, National Police Service officers from Kahawa West, working alongside the Assistant County Commissioner, recovered and destroyed 2,500 litres of illicit brew together with brewing equipment.

“Once again, we reiterate our unwavering commitment to tackling the menace of illicit brew and drugs across the country,” police said.

The development comes even as police sustain operations on illicit brews across various parts of the country.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, police recovered 10,000 litres of illicit brew in a raid in Kangemi.

The operation, led by officers from the Nairobi Region, resulted in the seizure and destruction of thousands of litres of chang’aa.

The raid also led to the recovery of about 50 kilogrammes of jaggery and several packets of yeast catalyst, believed to be used in the fermentation process.

“The exhibits have been secured, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the suspects behind the illegal trade,” police said.
