Activist and journalist Hanifa Aden has made an emotional
plea to Kenyans to help her get urgent medical assistance as her hearing
continues to deteriorate due to a severe ear condition.
In a statement seen by The Star, Hanifa said she has been
unsuccessfully looking for a good ENT facility where she can undergo surgery.
She went on to say that her hearing is fading day by day,
with pus oozing from the wounds inside.
The activist noted that all facilities she has been to have only
offered temporary solutions, but what she needs is surgery to fix the
condition.
“I’m not sure how to put this, but I’ve been searching for a
good ENT hospital where I can finally get my surgery done. My ears are getting
worse by the day, my hearing fades a little more each day, and pus keeps oozing
out. Most mornings, I wake up to complete silence, unable to hear anything,”
Hanifa said.
“Every hospital I’ve been to only offers temporary fixes, but
what I truly need is surgery to repair the wounds inside my ears that are
causing all these problems.”
The activist revealed that she sometimes relies on hearing
aids to partially restore her hearing.
However, she stressed that the devices cannot stop the
infection or halt her worsening condition.
“Just to note that I also use hearing aids, but they only
help me hear a bit more and cover parts of my hearing loss. They’re a lifesaver for me, but I need surgery to fix my serious infection and my ears to stop
getting worse each day and to stop the pus.”
She has appealed to well-wishers and medical professionals
to help her find a reputable ENT hospital capable of performing the surgery she
needs.
Hanifa said she chose to ask for assistance on X because the
users have been helpful in previously.
“I love asking questions here because this has always been
the best place for me. Every time I’ve reached out, I’ve found answers. So, on a
serious note, I’m asking for your help. I need my ears treated urgently.’
This is the first time she has come out publicly about her
ear condition.
