Former Chief Justice David Maraga has unveiled a digital platform to raise funds for his 2027 presidential campaign, calling it a people-driven initiative to “Reset, Restore, and Rebuild Kenya.”
The website, davidmaraga.com, allows Kenyans to contribute as little as Sh50 to support his bid.
Maraga revealed that within two days, contributions from Kenyans at home surpassed Sh500,000, with additional donations coming from the diaspora in foreign currency.
“We have set up a website, davidmaraga.com, and within two days in Kenya, we had more than Sh500,000. Those in the diaspora have also contributed in dollars. That tells you Kenyans want change,” he said.
The former CJ noted he would rely largely on public support to finance his campaign, saying his own financial input will be minimal.
“I will appeal to Kenyans to contribute to the campaigns. I’ll put in very little money, around Sh1 million or Sh2 million. I don’t have much money,” he said in an interview with Citizen TV.
The platform requires donors to submit their name, phone number, email address, and contribution amount.
According to Maraga, the funds will be used for grassroots mobilisation, town hall meetings, digital outreach, and building a nationwide network of volunteers.
He assured contributors that every cent would be accounted for, and any surplus would be redirected to a public cause.
“With the suffering Kenyans have gone through, I’m sure we’ll get Sh50 or Sh100 from individuals. I’m hoping we’ll get excess, and whatever is left, we will give it to a public cause,” he said.
Maraga reiterated his vision of establishing a government led by professionals and experts, stressing that positions would only go to competent and accountable individuals.
“Every public servant must earn their place and deliver results. We will not run a government of rewards and cronies,” he said.
