Kenya is grappling with a worrying surge in suspected suicide incidents.

The cases, spread across Kakamega, Taita Taveta, Machakos, Kericho, Nakuru, Nairobi, Embu, and Bomet counties, highlight growing mental health concerns.

A 22-year-old student from Navakholo TTI, Kelvin Sukuku Okuti, was on Thursday found dead in his house in Chebuyus, Kakamega County, in a suspected suicide.

Police say the body was found on the bed with foam oozing from the mouth and nose.

‘‘A container labelled Grabacine drug suspected to be poison was found on his bedside,” police stated

The deceased is suspected to have consumed the poison. The scene was processed and documented.

The body, which had no injuries, was moved to Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy

 A 35-year-old man, Mjomba Maganga, was on Thursday found dead in a suspected suicide case at Mwamele Village, Taita Taveta County.

He had travelled from Taveta the previous evening and was last seen by family members before the incident.

Police say the body was found hanging from a tree with a manila rope tied around his neck near his grandmother’s homestead.

 “The deceased had no visible physical injuries and was last seen at his grandmother’s home the previous evening,” police stated.

The body was moved to Wesu Sub-County Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.

A 33-year-old woman, Mary Mutindi Kasyula, was found dead under a mango tree in Kathome, Machakos County, on Thursday, in a suspected suicide.

 Police say the body was found lying on the ground with a leso tied around her neck and a branch from the same tree covering her body.

“The deceased is believed to have fallen from the tree where she had hanged herself due to her weight,” police stated.

 She had reportedly been battling postpartum depression and high blood pressure after delivering three months ago, and was under psychiatric care following treatment at Kathiani Level 4 Hospital.

 The body was moved to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

 A 67-year-old man, Daniel Kaloki Mutua, was on Wednesday found dead in his house in Kathuni Village, Kathiani, Machakos County, in a suspected suicide.

 Police say the body was found lying on the floor with a shoelace extended with a manila rope tied around his neck.

 “The door was locked from the inside and a suicide note was found placed on the table,” police stated.

 The deceased had last been seen the previous evening during a family meeting and appeared to be in a normal state.

 The scene was processed, and the body was moved to Kathiani Level IV Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.

  A 64-year-old man, Mzee Philip Kipkoros Ngeny, was on Wednesday found dead in his bedroom at Kaprote Village, Kericho County, in a suspected suicide.

 Police say the body was found hanging from the roof using a mosquito net strap.

“The deceased had previously attempted to take his life by ingesting a carbamate insecticide due to family-related stress,” police stated.

 He had recently been discharged from Roret Sub-County Hospital after recovering from the poisoning.

He was reportedly struggling with loneliness after his wife left home.

 The scene was documented, and the body, which had no visible injuries, was moved to Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.

A 95-year-old man, Joseph Nganga, was found dead outside his house in Kinangop Village, Nakuru County, on Wednesday in a suspected suicide.

 Police say the body was found hanging from a rope, with no visible injuries or a suicide note discovered at the scene.

 “The deceased was found lifeless outside his home. A thorough search showed no signs of foul play,” police stated.

The body was moved to Umash Funeral Home pending autopsy.

A 46-year-old man, Caleb Ongala Alukwe, was found dead on Wednesday in a maize plantation in Gichungo, Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi, in a suspected suicide.

Police say the body was found hanging from a tree with a rope tied around his neck.

“The deceased had been missing since July 7 and worked as a security guard at a company based in the 87 area along Waiyaki Way,” police stated.

The scene was processed, and the body was moved to City Mortuary pending postmortem.

A 27-year-old man, Dickson Muchangi Nthiga, was found dead on Sunday in Kivue Sub-Location, Muminji, Embu County, in a suspected suicide.

 Police say the body was discovered hanging from a tree by children.

“The body was found a day after the incident is believed to have occurred,” police stated.

 The scene was documented, and the body was moved to Siagako Level IV Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.

A 24-year-old man, Vincent Kibet Too, was found dead on Sunday in Kiptenden Village, Kimulot, Bomet County, in a suspected suicide.

Police say the deceased is suspected to have ingested pesticide (Traitix) and then hanged himself using a rope in his house.

 “The mother saw her son behaving strangely before the incident and later found him hanging inside the house,” police stated.

 He was rushed to Kapkatet Hospital while still alive, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body remained at the hospital awaiting transfer to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
