Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called for a higher level of political debate in the country, warning leaders against arrogance and empty rhetoric.
Speaking on Saturday, Kindiki said the country needs a “superior conversation” focused on realistic ideas that can move the country forward, not on who holds office or who shouts the loudest.
“Kenya deserves a superior conversation on who has the most realistic ideas for taking our nation forward,” he said.
Without stating any names, he dismissed leaders who focus only on positions and personal attacks, saying Kenyans are now more informed and cannot be fooled by dishonest politicians.
“Those whose only message is the chants about who will be in office for how long, or who speaks with what kind of voice, will be swept away by the torrential downpour of an increasingly smarter, enlightened and no-nonsense public who can no longer buy delusion from politicians,” he said.
His remarks came after his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua took to hyping a crowd in Meru saying, "Kasongo aende asiende, soprano aende asiende?"
Gachagua, who was accompanied by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, began his charm offensive campaigns in Meru on Friday.
The former DP and his team sustained calls for Ruto to be made a one-term President at the ballot during the 2027 general elections, calls the President rubished as empty talk that does not intimidate him.
"I have been in politics for a long time. And no one can threaten me. Ati kutishwa? Hapana, watafute mtu mwingine," Ruto said.
Kindiki echoed his sentiments saying the country deserves a superior conversation on who has the most realistic ideas for taking it forward.
“Haya madharau na kiburi yataisha, it is only a matter of time,” he said, meaning arrogance and pride will soon come to an end.
While keeping his remarks brief in the presence of President William Ruto, Kindiki said he would return to the county for a more direct political engagement with his critics.
“Today I don’t want to talk much because the boss is here. I want to hold my meeting here in Meru. There are some people I see walking around with a bit of arrogance,” he said.
The DP warned those he described as arrogant leaders who underestimate others saying, "They don’t know us, they don’t understand us. They’re testing us and thinking we’re small people,” he said.
"My friend, today the President is the one standing here. I want to come and stand here by myself and deal with these men — take them on swiftly,” he said.
Kindiki had accompanied the President for a meet the people tour after attending the 10th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day 2025, at Meru ASK Showground.
