Deputy President Kithure Kindiki says development will be the defining factor in the 2027 General Election.
Kindiki dismissed what he termed as "empty slogans" and "vengeful schemes" being pushed by rivals.
He said Kenyans will judge leaders based on their ability to transform lives in all 47 counties.
"What will count in the next election is one’s track record of pushing forward the development agenda of Kenyans, across all the 47 counties," Kindiki said.
He warned that political rhetoric alone will not sway voters.
"Kenya will not care about empty slogans, and vengeful schemes to determine who serves for how many terms in office."
His remarks appear to target former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has openly criticised President William Ruto’s leadership.
Gachagua, in recent attacks against the Ruto administration, has maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government does not deserve a second term, accusing it of mismanaging the economy and burdening Kenyans with excessive taxes.
Alongside Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K party boss Eugene Wamalwa, Gachagua has vowed to unseat Ruto in 2027 by rallying the opposition under a united front.
During a rally in Malili, Makueni County, on Friday, June 6, Gachagua declared:
“We have come here with Kalonzo to start the journey of making Ruto a one-term President. We are here to declare that we are together in this journey.
"We are committed to pursuing the change we believe is necessary—an unstoppable movement towards a new regime that truly serves the interests of our people.”
The opposition leaders have launched nationwide tours aimed at popularising their alliance and drumming up support against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
However, President Ruto has remained defiant, insisting he is undeterred by the opposition’s campaign and is confident of securing a second term.
“They said I’d never be President. I wouldn’t even serve one term—yet here I am. Now they say I won’t win a second term. Just wait until I’m re-elected. What excuse will they give then? Wao sio Mungu!” Ruto said recently.
