Nairobi Hospital was on Wednesday evening buzzing with activities after the death of Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo.

Preliminary reports indicate that he was shot dead by a gunman on a motorbike along Ngong Road near City Mortuary.

As the country tries to come to terms with his death, several leaders rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where his body lay.

DCI Boss Mohamed Amin, Nairobi police boss George Seda, and PS Interior Raymond Omollo were among those at the hospital.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Dagoretti MP Beatrice Elachi were also present.

Leaders have mourned the legislator, terming his death as a shock.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi recounted the last conversations with Were, where he allayed that everything was not well.

Health CS Aden Duale has called for action, saying those who are behind the act should face the law.

"I am deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Hon. Charles Ong'ondo Were, the MP for Kasipul. I had the privilege of serving with him in Parliament, where he always advocated for the people of Kasipul with clarity and conviction," Duale said.

"Those who planned and executed this heinous crime must face the full force of the law. Such brutality has no place in our society and must be condemned in the strongest terms possible," he added.

"To his family, friends and the people of Kasipul, I extend my heartfelt condolences. May you find peace in the legacy he leaves behind and strength in knowing that his service was not in vain."

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi recounted the last conversations with Were where he allayed that everything was not well.

“I was with my colleague just this afternoon in Parliament, chatted, laughed and he told me I need a conversation with you, mambo si mazuri. His exact words. Five hours later, he is no more. The news is shocking,” he said.

Credible reports said the MP was shot when he was caught up on traffic jam.

He had just left Parliament and was headed to Mbagathi Road when the gunmen struck.

They smashed the window of his car and shot him at close range.
