The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced a temporary 3-month closure of the Katani Road junction along Mombasa Road to allow the installation of fabricated footbridge beams.

According to a notice issued by the agency on Wednesday, the works are expected to begin during the Easter weekend from April 19 to April 20, 2025.

KeNHA notified the public that traffic disruption is expected during the period.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa bound lanes from Saturday, 19th April, 2025 at 10.00 pm to Sunday, 20th July, 2025 at 6.00 am,” said the notice.

To ensure free movement of traffic, the transport agency urged to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

Several sections of the road adjacent to Syokimau Airport Road, Kiungani Road, and Katani Road bound for Athi River will be closed.

This marks another directive by the government that is likely to disrupt Kenyans’ plans during the approaching Easter holidays.

While addressing the media on Tuesday, Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno directed that all beaches be closed by 6 pm during the holiday period to address security concerns in the region.

“Normally, we have sufficient deployment on the beaches, and immediately at 6 pm, we normally advise people to leave the beaches. So, they can stay up to six but not anytime beyond 6,” Commander Nuno said.

Following the completion of the Nairobi Expressway, Mombasa Road has been under routine maintenance.
