Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has finally landed a government job after her July 2024 dismissal from the Cabinet.
President William Ruto on March 20, 2025 nominated Nakhumicha Permanent Representative to the UN Habitat, Nairobi.
A statement from State House said Nakhumicha was appointed in instituted changes to the organisation of government.
“The Presidential Action, serialized as Executive Order No. 1 of 2025, causes nominations to and re-assignments of State Departments, as well as postings to the nation's foreign service,” it said.
State House said the changes are driven by the need to harness the opportunities within emerging sectors of the economy, as well as to address challenges affecting Kenya's social fabric.
“Collectively, the changes seek to further accelerate the implementation of the Administration's seminal socio-economic blue-print, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.”
On March 7, Nakhumicha detailed her life after Ruto reshuffled his Cabinet in June last year and axed some members including her.
Speaking in Kitale during the memorial service of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati, Nakhumicha said that she now concentrates on farming.
She said her focus is on farming and selling cabbages in Cherangany.
A day after Nakhumicha claimed that she has been facing financial challenges after her dismissal during the July 2024 Cabinet restructuring, leaders from Western urged Ruto to consider appointing her in another position.
Speaking during the burial of Chebukati's burial on March 8, Kiminini Member of Parliament Maurice Kakai said that the former Health Cabinet Secretary is still competent to hold another office in the government.
Nakhumicha was dismissed alongside other Cabinet Secretaries after Kenyans expressed dissatisfaction with the government.
Deborah Barasa replaced her on August 8, 2024.
Nakhumicha had earlier requested ACK archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit include her in his prayers since she was grappling with immense challenges after her sudden dismissal from the government.
