Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has vowed to continue showing support to the Kenya Kwanza coalition despite his affiliation with the Democratic Party (DP) which announced its plan to exit the coalition.

Speaking during an interview on TV47 on Wednesday, the MP reaffirmed his unwavering support to President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza coalition emphasising that he will continue working with them despite the DP Party propelling him to his current political position.

His remarks come barely a week after the DP Party issued a 30-day notice to the Registrar of Political Parties to exit the alliance.

Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu later confirmed that her office had received the letter.

However, Ruku asserted that the move by his political party to leave would not sway his political stance maintaining that he remained committed to supporting the government policies and leadership.

“I am a member of the party but I don’t remember attending such a meeting where we discussed that the Democratic Party is going to pull out of the Kenya Kwanza coalition so to that extent that is not a decision which I can say is binding to me,” Ruku stated.

“From where I sit I will continue working closely with the Kenya Kwanza coalition.”

DP Party Secretary General Jacob Haji stated that the party will explore various options, including fielding a presidential candidate in the 2027 general election.

“We are waiting for the 30-day notice to lapse so that we can be officially cleared by the Registrar of Political Parties before our National Executive Council (NEC) meets to map out the next steps,” Haji told The Star during a phone interview.

Haji emphasised that the party’s leadership would be cautious in forming new alliances to avoid repeating past mistakes.

“We are scouting for like-minded partners who will listen and work collaboratively to prevent us from ending up in the same situation as before,” he said.
