Gachagua attends consecration of new ACK Nairobi Diocese Bishop

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is attending the consecration and enthronement of the 3rd Bishop of the ACK Nairobi Diocese.

The Venerable Canon Jonathan Kabiru is being consecrated and enthroned as the 3rd Bishop of Nairobi at ACK St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Nairobi.

ACK St. Stephen’s Cathedral has been the seat of the ACK Diocese of Nairobi since 2002.

Gachagua is accompanied by his allies, including a section of Nairobi County MPs who support him.

“Consecration and enthronement of the 3rd Bishop of ACK Nairobi Diocese, Ven. Canon Jonathan Kabiru, Makadara Constituency, Nairobi County,” Gachagua posted on his Facebook account.

The former Deputy President is expected to use the occasion to speak about his ongoing political consultations and plans for the 2027 elections.

The service is being overseen by Jackson Ole Sapit, the 6th Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya.

Canon Kabiru was elected on January 18, 2025, during official Electoral College proceedings.

Aged 48, the Bishop-elect has been serving as the Vicar of ACK St. Gertrude Kasarani and the Archdeacon of Kasarani Archdeaconry in the diocese. He is married to Faith Kabiru, and they are blessed with three children.

The Ven. Kabiru was ordained as a priest on July 27, 2003, and has over 22 years of ministerial experience.

According to the ACK church, he has extensive experience in church administration, mission and evangelism, corporate governance, resource mobilization, leadership and strategy development, and ministry support within the diocese.

Beyond the church, the Bishop-elect holds several leadership positions in governance structures across public and private sector organizations.

He has also contributed to research and publications focused on strengthening ministry, urban missions, and leadership development within the church.

Kabiru holds a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Kenyatta University, a Bachelor of Theology from Kenya Methodist University, and a Diploma in Theology and Development from St. Paul’s University.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in Organization Development at Cebu Doctors’ University in the Philippines.
