  • The lawmakers, led by Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, accused NCIC of helping the state fight the ex-DP.
  • The commission’s warning is linked to Gachagua’s remarks warning President William Ruto against visiting Meru if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed from office.

MPs allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have turned their rage on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission after the agency cautioned Gachagua against incitement.

The lawmakers, led by Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, accused NCIC of helping the state fight the ex-DP.

The commission’s warning is linked to Gachagua’s remarks warning President William Ruto against visiting Meru if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed from office.

NCIC said the utterances are likely to promote negative ethnicity and incite animosity among communities.

The lawmakers accused Ruto of weaponising state agencies to fight his political wars.

“Ironically, what Gachagua has been doing is defending the rights and interests of Mt Kenya. He is fighting against isolation and exclusion of the region from the government,” Muriu said.

He was accompanied by MPs Amos Mwago (Starehe), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri), Onesmus Ngogoyo (Kajiado North), Mary Wamaua (Maragua) and Senators Dan Maanzo (Makueni) and Joe Nyutu (Muranga).

The Gatanga lawmaker also alluded to a plot to kick out Mt Kenya professionals from the government.

“His call against deliberate isolation of members of one community is not hate speech; not with the history of 2007,” Muriu said.
