A man has been brutally murdered in Machakos County.

Machakos County police commander Patrick Lobolia said the man was killed by suspected thugs during a robbery with violence incident at Kiima Kimwe in Machakos subcounty on Tuesday.

The matter was reported to the Machakos police station by a local administrator.

"The administrator reported that there was a robbery with violence incident within his area of jurisdiction. Police officers led by the subcounty criminal investigations officer and OCS Machakos visited the scene where they found the body of one Onesmus Itula Mbithi, 34 years, lying on the ground," Lobolia said.

He said the body had deep cuts on the back of the head and left ear.

"It was established that the deceased was a watchman at a laundry and dry cleaner shop located opposite Muthini Primary School, and he reported to work at 6.30 pm on Monday. The shop was reportedly locked by its owner with everything intact at 7.30 pm," Lobolia said.

The body was discovered lying at the scene by the shop's owner, prompting him to report to the said administrator, who, in turn, reported to the police.

"At around 7.00 am, the owner found the deceased lying outside the shop in a pool of blood. He said his shop had been broken into, and Sh58,000 cash, together with assorted clothes and shoes, of value yet to be established,  stolen," Lobolia said.

The scene was processed by CSI Machakos, and the body, which had visible injuries, was moved to Machakos Funeral Home pending an autopsy.

The case is pending investigation.

The DCI, Machakos, have launched investigations into the incident.
