Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen condoles with the family of Elgeiyo Marakwet county commissioner John Korir during the burial of their son Ian Singoei

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has yet again issued a stern warning to those misusing social media platforms, declaring that the government will no longer tolerate irresponsible online behaviour.

Murkomen emphasised that there are sufficient provisions within the law to hold offenders accountable and the government will not hesitate to arrest and charge them.

“We will not tolerate this any longer. The country must operate under law and order,” he stated.

Speaking during the funeral of Ian Singoei in Chepalungu, Bomet, the CS reassured Kenyans that his actions would be apolitical, focusing solely on enforcing the law, regardless of the accused's affiliations.

“Nobody can intimidate us. I don’t engage in politics anymore - what matters is the rule of law and so from now henceforth, you are going to see apolitical Murkomen,” he said.

While strongly condemning online harassment and the spread of offensive content, Murkomen took aim at those circulating defamatory images and malicious propaganda, particularly those targeting judges, church leaders, and political figures.

"Let us take you to court, so that the judge can decide whether it is acceptable to post pictures of judges, church and political leaders or children in coffins and spread in such a manner as they have been doing," he said.

He added: “We are not in the business of abductions but of arresting and charging those who break the law.”

Singoei, 27, was the son of Elgeiyo Marakwet county commissioner John Korir.

His lifeless body was found near a river in Mwiki area, Kasarani, Nairobi, not far from where he lived on January 4, five days after he went missing.

According to the family, Sing’oei was in the company of his friends on New Year's Eve at Mwiki area in Kasarani before he went missing.

Postmortem results indicated the cause of death as drowning, Korir said.

Several leaders including Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Governor Hillary Barchok, former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, area MP Victor Koech, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Johana Ngeno (Emurua Dikirr) among others leaders attended the funeral.
