Police in Narok have arrested two suspects who pretended to be students at Maasai Mara University in order to steal from the students.
Speaking to KNA, Narok Central Sub County Commander John Momanyi said one suspect had been rescued by the police after irate students almost lynched him at Eagles Junction, a few metres from the Maasai Mara University.
The suspect later led the police to his house where his accomplice was found with several mobile phones believed to have been stolen from the university.
“The suspect was rescued by the police and taken to Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment. It was later established that the suspects had posed to be Maasai Mara University students and stole mobile phones from unsuspecting first year students,” he said.
Students who positively identified their phones narrated how their phones had mysteriously disappeared, with some saying they had left their phones charging in their rooms but woke up to find their phones missing.
Nevertheless, the police boss called on members of the public to report such incidents to the police instead of subjecting the suspects to mob justice so as to ensure proper investigations.
Brenda Mwikali lauded the police for their efforts that led to the recovery of her phone, which she had lost a month ago.
Jerry Rowlings, a former school president, appealed to the police to help recover two phones that remained missing.
The two suspects will be arraigned in court as one suspect who suffered injuries was discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.
