Residents across several Nairobi estates are beginning to reap the benefits of improved road infrastructure as the city accelerates road construction and rehabilitation projects.

Among the latest projects to be completed is the long-awaited recarpeting of Othaya-Githembe Road in Kariobangi North Ward. The road had remained incomplete since 2021, causing years of frustration for residents, motorists, and businesses.

Its completion is expected to ease movement, improve accessibility, and stimulate economic activity in the area.

According to information shared by the county government, the renewed infrastructure drive is part of the county’s efforts to address Nairobi’s road network challenges, particularly in estates that have endured poor road conditions for years.

In Viwandani Ward, residents are also set to benefit from the upgrading of Uchumi Road and the tarmacking of the access road linking Lunga Lunga Centre to Donholm Village.

The projects are aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel time, and enhancing access to residential areas and business hubs.

Governor Sakaja Johnson says the ongoing road works are part of the county’s daily infrastructure upgrade programme, which has unlocked the implementation of several projects that had stalled or faced prolonged delays.

“Our commitment is to ensure that every part of Nairobi benefits from quality infrastructure. From the inner city to the estates, we are investing in roads, drainage, and public amenities to create a more connected, accessible, and productive city,” said Sakaja.

The road upgrades form part of a wider infrastructure improvement programme being rolled out across Nairobi.

From Kilimani to Pangani and from Kamukunji to Starehe, the construction and rehabilitation of roads, as well as the improvement of drainage systems, are currently underway.

“Roads that had stalled for years are now being completed, improving mobility, boosting businesses, and enhancing the quality of life for our people,” he added.

The latest projects add to a growing list of infrastructure works as the county government continues to deliver visible development projects across Nairobi’s estates and informal settlements.
