President William Ruto's aide, Farouk Kibet, is engaging with locals, including players from the Mighty Eagles Soccer Academy in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia, on Friday, July 11.
There was reason to celebrate for
Mighty Eagles Soccer Academy on Monday after President William Ruto’s aide,
Farouk Kibet, honoured his promise and donated Sh2 million towards the team’s
trip to Denmark for the upcoming Dana Cup.
The academy, based in Trans Nzoia
County, had been struggling to raise Sh2.5 million to cover travel expenses for
its participation in the prestigious international youth football tournament,
scheduled for July 21–26, 2025, in Hjørring, Denmark.
Farouk stepped in with a major
contribution after learning that the team was short of Sh2 million for air
tickets.
“I have been told that these boys
are supposed to go to Denmark to play football. I have heard that they have
lacked Sh2 million for their air tickets to Denmark,” said Farouk during an
empowerment event on July 11.
“I will give them Sh2 million for
their tickets to go and play football and grow their talents.”
On Monday, Trans Nzoia Woman
Representative Lilian Siyoi Walubengo handed over the funds on his behalf,
praising both the academy and Farouk for the gesture.
“The Mighty Eagles Soccer Academy
deserves immense praise for their dedication to nurturing and developing
football and athletic talent in Trans Nzoia County. I'm truly proud of their
efforts,” said Walubengo.

“My heartfelt thanks to Farouk T.
Kibet. Following a quick request, he swiftly moved to support our talented
young boys from Trans Nzoia County. It's with great pleasure that I announce
I've handed over Ksh 2 million to cover their air tickets to Denmark,” she
added.
Walubengo also used the occasion to
urge fellow leaders to focus on meaningful engagement with citizens.
“This is a humble call to all elected leaders: let's prioritise delivering
service to the people. Our rallies should always benefit the electorate who
entrusted us with this job. Let's avoid incitement and unproductive noise that
doesn't contribute to the well-being of our people,” she said.
The Mighty Eagles now have just
Sh500,000 left to raise before the team departs for Denmark in under two weeks.
The Dana Cup is one of the largest
international youth football tournaments in the world, attracting over 1,000
teams from more than 45 countries.
Apart from competition, it promotes
cultural exchange and interaction among young players from diverse backgrounds.
This year’s tournament runs from
July 21 to July 26 in Hjørring, Denmark.
