Kenya’s senior women's national team, Harambee Starlets, will take part in the 2025 Cecafa Senior Women’s Championship, the Football Kenya Federation have confirmed.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, from June 12 to 22. Kenya will be joined by hosts Tanzania, South Sudan, Burundi, and Uganda in the five-nation regional tournament.
The tournament is organised by Cecafa in collaboration with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF). The competition is aimed at preparing Cecafa’s representative, Tanzania’s Twiga Stars, for the upcoming 2025 Africa Women's Cup of Nations (Wafcon), set to kick off in Morocco in July.
At the 2025 Wafcon, Tanzania is placed in group C alongside defending champions South Africa, Ghana, and Mali. Hosts Morocco headline Pool A, which also features DR Congo, Senegal, Zambia, while Nigeria is in Pool B together with Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.
Meanwhile, the Harambee Starlets are currently in Morocco and are scheduled to face the Atlas Lionesses this evening in an international friendly match in Tangier.
The fixture is part of the team’s broader preparations ahead of the Cecafa Championship and future international commitments.
The Cecafa tournament is part of the build-up towards the final round of the 2026 Wafcon qualifiers against Gambia in October.
The participation of the Harambee Starlets in both the Cecafa tournament and high-level friendlies reflects FKF’s continued commitment to offering the national women’s team quality competitive exposure.
Harambee Starlets coach Beldine Odemba named a strong side for the Morocco assignment. Among the notable additions is Kibera Soccer Women goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo, who finished second in the 2024/25 season for most clean sheets.
Defender Leah Andiema, forward Tumaini Waliaula and midfielder Diana Wacera return to the national fold, while Phoebe Aketch and Martha Amunyolet have also earned call-ups following solid performances at club level.
Captain Dorcas Shikobe makes her comeback after missing the April camp in Ivory Coast due to injury, bringing back leadership and experience to the squad.
