The inaugural Uzalendo Half Marathon set for this Saturday in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, aims to raise Sh25 million to help underprivileged students complete their secondary school education.

‎Speaking during the launch in Nairobi on Wednesday, Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Hannah Cheptumo said the marathon’s goal aligns with her ministry’s mission of empowering communities through education support.

‎“This new plan fits well with my Ministry’s work because we are changing lives by giving scholarships and other help to students who need it. The money raised will create a fund that will help students for many years. This is a big goal and it will help generations to come,” she said.

‎She reiterated that the drive is also aimed at helping future generations. ‎“Let me take this opportunity to remind you that some of the things that you do now will be remembered for many years to come,” Cheptumo noted.

‎She called on the organisers to manage the funds transparently. ‎“I ask the School Board and the Education Foundation to use the money well and keep clear records. This way, the fund will grow and help more students faster."

‎The CS further thanked Athletics Kenya for backing Saturday's race. ‎"I also thank AK for working with the organisers to make this marathon a success,” she noted.

‎Cheptumo urged athletes to uphold integrity by competing clean and working with the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to maintain international standards. ICT and Digital Economy Principal Secretary, John Tanui, commended the marathon’s use of technology for transparency and accountability, saying it would help attract sponsors and reach a wider audience. ‎“This marathon is not just about running; it is about connecting people to a bigger purpose."

‎"Through technology, we can share the story, attract more sponsors, and make sure every shilling is accounted for. My ministry will support this effort in every way needed,” Tanui said.

‎He also called on other sectors to learn from the Marathon’s approach.  “When we bring together sports, technology and good leadership, we can change lives and give our children a better future."

‎Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma rallied the local community and Kenyans of goodwill to support the fundraiser.

‎“Eldama Ravine is proud to host this great event. This Marathon shows what we can do when we stand together to help our children,” Sirma said.

‎ “This Marathon belongs to us all. We will make sure that every child who dreams of going to school gets that chance. Together, let’s make history for our children and our county,” he added.
