Nairobi has witnessed a new phenomenon this week where organised gangs attack and rob members of the public after presidential rallies and meet-the-people tours.

President William Ruto has been on development-cum-campaign tours of the various city constituencies starting Monday when he visited Kamukunji and Kasarani constituencies.

On Tuesday he was in the Roysambu constituency while on Wednesday he toured Westlands, Dagoretti North and Dagoretti South constituencies.

Large crowds have been turning up for the tours. While many are innocent, a particular group riding on motorbikes has been terrorising innocent members of the public – both pedestrians and motorists – after the rallies and robbing them of valuables.

Shops are vandalised, while mama mbogas and hawkers are robbed of the wares in the full glare of the police.

On Monday, they even had the audacity to storm State House only to be repulsed by police elite unit Recce Squad.

Which group is this that brazenly commits a crime in front of the police without any fear? These goons must be stopped and tamed before they mutate into an uncontrollable ragtag army.
