President William Ruto has slammed the opposition for their criticism of his broad-based administration, saying that it is meant to unite the country.

Speaking in Oloonkoliin, Emurua Dikirr in Narok county, Ruto said that the time for politics has also not come, and his current focus is on development.

He insisted that those opposed to the unity of the country must provide alternative plans for the development of the country on various issues affecting the country.

The President questioned what they want to happen to the country if they do not want a united country.

“We want to unite all Kenyans so that we can focus on the development of the country. I want to tell the other guys, the time for politics has not come. It is time to work for the people of Kenya; time for politics will come. Those who can’t see what we are doing should give us their alternative plan. Because we are implementing a plan that unites all Kenyans. Hawataki broad-based wanataka ya kugawa Kenya ndio iende wapi? (They do not want broad-based and want to divide the country),” Ruto said.

His remarks were directed at the opposition, which accuses the President of trying to kill it by having leaders from their parties working in his administration.

Ruto got into a pact to work with ODM members after June 2024’s Gen Z protests that brought the country to a standstill over the Finance Bill, 2024, which was later dropped.

He later dismissed his entire Cabinet, and in its reconstitution, Ruto included at least five senior members of the ODM party.

ODM was the strongest party within the opposition coalition Azimio.

ODM's decision to work with Ruto was seen as a betrayal of the opposition, which is now regrouping in efforts to form new alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Head of State is on his second day of the development tour of Narok.

The President was accompanied by, among others, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and elected leaders from the county.
