Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Sunday laughed off the opposition unity after the leaders gathered at the home of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in Wamunyoro, Nyeri County.
Speaking at an economic empowerment forum in Igegania in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, Kindiki said that when the time for politics comes, they will battle it out with the opposition, who he said will be in a rude shock.
He insisted that when that time comes, everyone will have to bring their performance record for the last five years.
The DP said that the leadership of the Kenya Kwanza administration is focused on what needs to be done now, which is delivering on their campaign promises.
“We have no time to waste. I have seen some people mocking us that we don’t know how to campaign, that they know politics. My friends, the bible says that there is a time and season for everything. This is the time for work, not the time to fight over who will have what position. Wakati huo ukifika tutanyoroshana na hao wanaume (When that time comes, we will face those men). They will not believe it. Everyone will bring their scorecard,” Kindiki said.
Opposition leaders, including Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP’s Martha Karua, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa and former Cabinet Secretaries Justin Muturia and Mithika Linturi, as well as former MP Kabando wa Kabando, among others.
He leaders in their remarks vouched for a united front, insisting that they are the only outfit that can liberate Kenya from its current challenges.
The opposition insisted that if elected, they would restore the public’s faith in the government.
“You give us this mandate, you will see how work is done. We need to clean our country, restore faith in government so that people can trust government again,” Matiang’i said.
Kindiki, in another reaction to the said unity, stated that the 2027 political contest is now clearly defined.
“The contest is now clearly defined!”
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been leading the charge against the Ruto administration.
He has also teamed up with all who have fallen out with Ruto and Raila and is assembling a mega team for the 2027 general elections.
