The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has arrested two suspected bhang traffickers in Machakos County.

The operation, spearheaded by Nacada enforcement officers, followed a credible tip-off from the public.

During the raid, officers recovered a stash of illicit drugs, including 20 brooms and 87 sticks of bhang, along with drug paraphernalia such as Rizla rolling papers, scissors and cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

The suspects were arraigned in court to face charges of trafficking in narcotic drugs.

Nacada CEO Anthony Omerikwa lauded the efforts of the enforcement team and community members who provided the critical intelligence.

“This arrest is a strong message to drug traffickers and peddlers that their days are numbered,” he said.

“We are not relenting in our mission to dismantle drug networks across the country. No matter how remote the location, if you traffic drugs, we will find you.”

He urged the public to continue supporting Nacada’s initiatives by sharing information anonymously through its hotline 1192.

Omerikwa also emphasised that community collaboration remains a powerful tool in the national fight against drugs.

Barely three days ago, Nacada seized contraband worth over Sh2.9 million in Bondo, Siaya County.

This was part of Nacada’s major crackdown on drug trafficking and the illicit liquor trade across the country.

Omerikwa said the operation was launched following a tip-off, leading to a raid on a notorious drug dealer’s hideout in Nyamonye Market.

“This operation marks a significant victory in our relentless war against drug abuse and the illegal alcohol trade,” he said.

“We will not allow unscrupulous traders to destroy the lives of our youth.”

The raid on the suspect’s home, business premises, and rental houses led to the discovery of 4,600 sticks of suspected cannabis sativa and 11 brooms of suspected bhang, which are awaiting weighing and analysis.

Also confiscated were eight cartons of cigarettes allegedly destined for Uganda and South Sudan, 118 cartons of spirits, 107 cartons of another type of spirit and 12 cartons of liquor.

Four cash safes believed to contain proceeds from illegal activities were also recovered during the multi-agency operation.

The Authority confirmed that such operations will be intensified in the coming weeks as part of a broader crackdown targeting narcotic distribution networks countrywide.
