Rains expected to persist across several parts of country –Weatherman

Kenya Meteorological Department (Met) has said that rainfall is expected to persist across several parts of the country.

This is according to the weather forecast covering the period from Tuesday, April 8, to Monday, April 14, 2025.

Met said isolated heavy rainfall events may occur in parts of the Central Highlands, Western, North-western, and North-eastern regions.

The weatherman added that daytime (maximum) temperatures will be above 30°C likely in the coastal, northeastern and northwestern regions.

The night-time (minimum) temperatures will be below 10°C expected in some areas of the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley will experience morning rains over a few places, afternoon showers and thunderstorms, and night showers over a few places.

The counties affected are Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok.

In Northwestern Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties), there will be morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers, and thunderstorms that are likely to occur over a few places occasionally spreading to several places.

Met also released the forecast for the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County) (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties.

In the areas, there will be cloudy mornings with light rains over a few places, giving way to sunny intervals.

Additionally, afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places.

There will be morning rains, afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms in North-Eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties).

The southeastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County) will have sunny intervals in the morning, afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms over few places.

The Coast (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County) will experience morning, afternoon and night over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places.
