Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was treated to a meal with residents of Maragua in Murang'a County after attending a church service.

On Sunday, Gachagua attended a church service at PCEA Nairobi, which turned ugly at first, with goons invading the place of worship.

The disturbance occurred shortly after Gachagua and his entourage arrived for the Sunday service as the group attempted to storm the church, temporarily compromising the security of congregants.

In pictures shared on his social media pages, Gachagua was seen addressing the residents and later sharing a meal with them.

The former DP said the act of meal sharing reminded him of the importance of community and the simple moments and memories shared.

"After an uplifting service at Kasarani PCEA in Nairobi, I was treated to a sumptuous lunch at a local joint in Maragua, Muranga County. But what touched me the most was the great love I received from the residents. It has reminded me of the importance of community ties and the bonds we share. It is in these simple moments that we find the true essence of belonging. Asanteni sana watu wa Maragua!" Gachagua said.

The former DP was seen at a hotel surrounded by some leaders and residents sharing a meal from one plate.

Gachagua's last public appearance was on March 31, 2025, at Wangige Market in Kiambu, where he criticized the government's performance.

During the Sunday melee, Gachagua was quickly shielded by his security team, who took defensive positions to prevent the intruders from gaining access.

During the brief commotion, the group could be heard shouting while trying to force their way in, with church members standing in resistance.

Gunshots were also heard.

“Let us remain calm, please,” the bishop was heard urging the congregation amid the unrest.

Despite the tense moments, calm was restored as security forces dispersed the group, allowing the service to continue without further incident.

Gachagua, accompanied by several political allies, including Members of Parliament and MCAs from his camp, was at the church ahead of his planned national TV interview on April 7, where he is expected to address his supporters and comment on the political developments.
