Police in Homa Bay are investigating an incident where a security guard was killed by unknown gangsters on Tuesday.
The guard identified as Harrison Apolo Andika, 70, was murdered in a business premise he was guarding.
The deceased was guarding the premises of a business enterprise that has a pub and outdoor events services.
Homa Bay Subcounty Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Charles Koilenge said that the gangsters damaged part of the fence and gained entry into the business premises.
Koilenge said that the criminals attacked the guard with sharp objects, killing him instantly, after which they stole two television sets and bottles of alcohol.
They also drank alcohol and discarded bottles at the fence.
Andika’s body was found in a pool of blood in the compound by workers who went to open the business premises in the morning.
“We got information that the old man had been killed by unknown assailants,” a resident said.
Koilenge said Andika’s body had serious head injuries.
"The body had multiple head injuries which he sustained during the attack,” Koilenge said.
The officer said they had begun investigating the matter, which includes reviewing the CCTV camera footage to see what happened during the incident.
“When we arrived at the scene, we found the CCTV cameras switched off. But we are working on them to reveal what happened,” Koilenge said.
He urged the public to co-operate with security officers in tracking down the gangsters.
The body was moved to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
