Super Metro Sacco has urged for calm as police investigate circumstances surrounding an accident that involved one of their buses on Thika Road Saturday morning.

The Sacco confirmed that one of their fleet vehicles plying the busy highway was involved in an accident near the Jomoko area with a saloon car.

The company said the bus, registration number KDL 360F, swerved to avoid colliding with a saloon car and landed in a ditch, but there were no injuries or casualties reported.

"Preliminary information indicates that the accident was caused by a white saloon car, which was reportedly overloaded with jerrycans of Muratina and was swerving carelessly across the road, as observed by multiple drivers in the vicinity," the company said.

"The saloon car collided with the side of the Super Metro bus, forcing the bus driver to take evasive action. Unfortunately, while attempting to avoid further collision, the bus veered off the road and landed in a ditch."

Super Metro said police from Thika police station are currently handling the matter and conducting further investigations into the incident.

The company has reassured the public of its commitment to road safety and its full cooperation with the authorities.

It expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support and urged those seeking official details to direct inquiries to the police.

"We urge anyone seeking official details about the incident to direct inquiries to Thika police station for accurate and updated information. For further inquiries related to Super Metro operations, the public can contact their office at (020) 2522873," it said.

The incident came just a day after the National Police Service issued a warning vowing stern action against motorists found to have engaged in dangerous and reckless driving as schools close for April Easter holiday.

Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said on Friday that public transport providers and other motorists who will put the lives of Kenyans at risk through reckless behaviour will face tough penalties, including cancellation of operating licenses.

“We are aware that the Easter holiday is fast approaching with a resultant increased movement and heavy traffic expected on our roads across the country alongside the imminent closure of schools for the holidays,” he noted.

"Drivers of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) are reminded to be extremely conscious of their duty while ferrying the students at this time,” he said.
