President William Ruto is chairing a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting of his UDA-allied MPs on Friday morning ahead of the unveiling of his cooperation agreement with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Separately, Raila is also chairing a meeting of his party’s Central Management Committee (CMC)—a top decision-making organ of the ODM party—to brief his allies on the agreement with President Ruto.
The two leaders convened these crucial meetings on Friday morning to set the stage for the signing of a major political pact between their parties later in the day.
A text message sent to UDA MPs confirmed that the president would host the lawmakers for a breakfast meeting at State House, Nairobi, before holding the PG session.
“Colleagues, H.E. the President, Dr. WSR, invites you all for a breakfast meal at State House, Nairobi, tomorrow (Friday), March 7, 2025, at exactly 7 a.m., followed by a PG meeting at the same venue. Please keep time,” the invite read.
The message was sent by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, who also serves as the National Assembly Majority Whip.
President Ruto is expected to defend the cooperation agreement and reassure his MPs amid reports of expected government changes to accommodate ODM.
As part of the deal, Kenya Kwanza has already ceded several parliamentary committee leadership positions to ODM, and Raila is expected to nominate more allies to the cabinet.
Meanwhile, Raila is chairing the CMC meeting at a Nairobi hotel, where key party stalwarts are being briefed on the agreement with President Ruto.
The CMC comprises top ODM officials, including the Chairperson, Secretary-General, Deputy Party Leaders, National Treasurer, and Executive Director
Raila recently concluded a weeklong countrywide tour consulting his supporters, wrapping up with a meeting of top Nairobi County party leaders at the Kenya International Convention Centre on Friday night.
Raila had told his supporters that he would not join hands with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua but instead work with the government to stabilise the country.
