ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has dismissed calls for his resignation, asserting that his position is secured by his unwavering loyalty to the party.

In a cheeky post on X, the Nairobi Senator mocked those predicting his exit, emphasizing that his loyalty remains unquestionable.

"Time does fly when you are having fun. It’s seven years to the day today! It’s very easy to be SG of ODM. You just need to follow the blueprint left by Gerald Otieno Kajwang—Loyalty. Fidelity. Faithfulness. Easy as ABC," he posted on Sunday morning.

His remarks came after Nairobi ODM Chairperson and Makadara MP George Aladwa claimed on Saturday that Sifuna’s tenure as Secretary General was coming to an end.

"I want to warn Sifuna, the one calling himself the Secretary General of ODM. We've had many Secretary Generals before; he's not the first. Ababu left, and he will also leave. He should completely stay away from me. I see he has insulted me a lot, but I want to tell him that his days in ODM are numbered,” he said.

Sifuna was appointed as ODM Secretary General in 2016 in an acting capacity succeeding Ababu Namwamba after boardroom negotiations.

He was confirmed to the position during the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) in 2018 at Kasarani Gymnasium.

Recently, he has faced criticism from some ODM leaders who accuse him of shifting his loyalty away from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

His detractors argue that his outspoken criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government and his direct attacks indicate he is not aligning with the party’s stance.

However, Sifuna has maintained that ODM remains an opposition party and that members are free to criticize Kenya Kwanza as part of their oversight role.

This has sparked internal tensions, with some of Raila’s allies warning against excessive government criticism, especially since some ODM members are collaborating with Kenya Kwanza.

Party members have been divided on whether Sifuna’s position reflects the true stance of ODM, with some officials rallying behind him.

Governors Simba Arati and his Kisumu counterpart Anyang’ Nyong’o have defended Sifuna, with Arati emphasizing that his position aligns with the party’s official stance.

"Sifuna is our SG, and he must be respected," said Arati, who also serves as ODM’s Deputy Party Leader.

ODM Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi also came to Sifuna’s defense, insisting that the Nairobi Senator deserves respect and that any issues concerning his leadership should be addressed through proper party channels.

"Sifuna is one of the most brilliant and visionary leaders in the party. Let him be respected," Osotsi recently stated.

"We don’t want a situation where junior members of the party attack party officials."
