Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday reunited with his former deputy Polycarp Igathe in a private ceremony in Nairobi after several years.
Sonko and Igathe were seen exchanging pleasantries during a ruracio ceremony held in the upscale Runda estate.
The event was a celebration of the engagement between Luios Muthengi Kimanzi and Matilda Igathe. Matilda is the daughter of Igathe.
The two former leaders, who were elected on the Jubilee ticket in the 2017 general election, seemed to rekindle their camaraderie as they mingled with other guests.
The colorful ceremony appeared to be a blend of joy and nostalgia, as two caught up after several years since their split.
The occasion was made even more memorable when Sonko gifted Igathe an exclusive bottle of Johnnie Walker King George V whiskey.
"Nashukuru sana Sonkoree and bwana Kimanzi, this is to friendship..endeni sasa mgawane hii," Igathe was later heard saying as he handed over the drink to the invited guests.
Igathe resigned in January 2018 barely six months in office.
He cited failure to earn the trust of his boss to enable him to deliver services to Nairobians.
In a letter addressed to Sonko, he wrote: “I write to resign my seat as the elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1 pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2018."
The duo was elected into office on the Jubilee ticket in the 2017 general election.
