A classic comforting butternut soup requires a precise combination of fresh vegetables, chicken stock, and a structured cooking technique.

The foundation of the recipe relies on two tablespoons of butter melted in a large pot.

Cooks then add the primary vegetables: one small chopped onion, one stalk of chopped celery, one medium chopped carrot, two medium cubed potatoes, and one medium butternut squash that has been peeled, seeded, and cubed.

The preparation begins by cooking these combined vegetables in the melted butter for approximately five minutes until they are lightly browned.

Once browned, one container of chicken stock is poured into the pot, ensuring there is enough liquid to fully cover the vegetables. The mixture is then brought to a boil over medium-high heat.

After reaching a boil, the heat must be reduced so the mixture can cover and simmer for about 40 minutes.

Once the simmering process completes and the vegetables are tender, the soup is blended thoroughly until it reaches a smooth consistency.

The final stages involve returning the blended liquid back to the pot. At this point, cooks can add more stock if a thinner consistency is needed, and the soup is seasoned using salt and ground black pepper to taste.

The process concludes by serving the butternut soup hot. This culinary method provides a direct, step-by-step approach to transforming raw produce into a cohesive, smooth vegetable soup.
