Kenya's military expenditure has steadily increased over the past decade, reaching Sh190.01 billion in 2025, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

This marks an increase from Sh169.4 billion in 2024 and Sh147.37 billion in 2023.

Spending has risen consistently from Sh82.83 billion in 2015, reflecting sustained investment in defence and security.

Other annual expenditures include Sh136.21 billion in 2022, Sh129.56 billion in 2021, Sh118.77 billion in 2020, Sh113.9 billion in 2019, Sh112.77 billion in 2018, Sh104.99 billion in 2017 and Sh94.72 billion in 2016.

In 2025, military expenditure accounted for 4.63 percent of total government spending, underscoring the sector's continued budgetary significance.
