Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has outlined the financial boundaries for the upcoming 2027 General Election, introducing strict spending ceilings for candidates and political parties.

According to the IEBC, the proposed regulations aim to manage campaign financing ahead of the vote scheduled for August 10, 2027.

Under the new proposals, presidential candidates face a spending cap of Sh4.4 billion. Political parties hold the largest financial allowance, with a proposed spending limit set at Sh17.7 billion.

For localised races, the commission has adjusted limits to reflect regional scales. Candidates running for the position of Governor can spend up to Sh123 million, while those contesting Member of Parliament (MP) seats are restricted to a maximum of Sh94 million.

The IEBC has also finalised the official campaign timeline leading up to the polls.

The official campaign period will formally commence on May 29. Candidates and political parties will have just over two months to canvass for votes before the window closes.

All campaign activities must legally conclude on August 7, exactly 48 hours before the polling day on August 10, 2027.

These timelines and expenditure rules are designed to regulate the electoral environment as the country prepares for the next general election.
