The Ministry of Health commands the highest level of public confidence when it comes to managing public health emergencies in Kenya.

A newly released GeoPoll survey shows that 56 per cent of respondents place their trust in the national ministry during health crises, far outpacing any other body.

International health organisations follow as the second most trusted entity, capturing 20 per cent of public support.

Interestingly, a segment of the population remains sceptical of all institutions, with nine per cent of respondents stating they trust no one during a health crisis. Research institutions and universities enjoy a modest seven per cent trust level among the public.

Meanwhile, grassroots healthcare management faces a significant confidence deficit. Local hospitals and healthcare workers stand at a low four per cent, a figure tied directly to county governments, which also manage to secure only four per cent of public trust.

These public trust patterns have direct implications for ongoing health infrastructure developments, such as the proposed Laikipia Ebola facility.

The GeoPoll survey data implies that the upcoming facility would gain substantially more credibility if placed under the direct control of the Ministry of Health rather than being left to county management.
