Travelling between Nairobi and Mombasa on the Madaraka Express offers three distinct fare classes, with a new trip added to accommodate the surge in Christmas and holiday travel.
The Economy class provides the most budget-friendly option. An outbound (one-way) ticket is Sh1,500, and the return trip is also Sh1,500, totalling Sh3,000 for a round-trip journey.
For increased comfort, the First Class offers outbound and return tickets at Sh4,500 each, making the total round-trip fare Sh9,000.
The most luxurious option is the Premium class, priced significantly higher. A one-way ticket costs Sh12,000, while a return trip is offered at a discounted rate of Sh20,000.
The standard journey departs from Nairobi at 9:40 am and arrives in Mombasa at 3:35 pm. Kenya Railways has scheduled an extra train to meet the high demand during the festive season.
