In Summary

Between April 2024 and March 2025, Kenya recorded alarming cases of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) across different age groups.

Data from the Gender Based Violence Recovery Centre shows that young people were the most affected.

The highest number of cases was reported among adolescents aged 15–17 years (703 cases), followed closely by young adults aged 18–25 years (677 cases).

Children aged 0–9 years (529 cases) and those aged 10–14 years (515 cases) were also significantly affected, highlighting the vulnerability of minors.

Other affected groups included survivors aged 26–30 years (380 cases), 31–40 years (469 cases), 41–49 years (124 cases), and 50 years and above (27 cases).

A unique finding from the report is that many survivors presented themselves after the recommended 72 hours post-assault, which can compromise timely medical and psychosocial interventions.
