Trans-Nzoia County tops the list with the highest number of teen mothers in 2024, registering 17.5% of all live births by mothers aged 19 and below.
Other counties with high teenage birth rates include Samburu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kitui, Kisii, Migori, Nyamira, Meru, and Narok.
Nationally, 11.3% of all registered live births were to teenage mothers, according to the Kenya Vital Statistics Report 2024 by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
The data highlights that 26 counties recorded teenage birth rates above the national average.
The trend raises concerns over early pregnancies and the need for enhanced sexual and reproductive health education.
