Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has called for Western Kenya to unite behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying the region should be the starting point of a nationwide campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Babu said he, Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement had already toured 16 counties and planned to visit all 47 counties, 490 constituencies, more than 1,200 wards and villages across the country in search of support.
"I want to tell you, my people from Western, have we brought this presidential seat here or not? We don't want confusion here in Bungoma. We must ensure that Western is locked," Babu said.
"We shall walk with Senator Edwin Sifuna. We started walking with you from day one, and we have so far covered 16 counties. We shall visit all the 47 counties, 490 constituencies, over 1,200 wards and all the villages in search of votes."
Babu urged Sifuna to extend the tour to other regions once support from Western Kenya is secured.
"I appeal to you, Sifuna, that when we are done with Western, let us visit Nyanza and ask for their votes; they love you. We then go to Kisii and talk to former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and have a sit-down with him."
He also proposed reaching out to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in an effort to build broader political support.
"When we leave there, let us go to Eastern and talk to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka because the Kamba community loves you. From there, let us go to the Mountain, where we shall find former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and talk to him," he said.
Sifuna said the opposition was determined to avoid splitting votes by presenting one flag bearer.
"The opposition will field one candidate to face (Ruto)," Sifuna told supporters at Sibanga in Trans Nzoia County during the Linda Mwananchi tour.
Sifuna said the opposition was actively engaging leaders from different regions to build a broad-based coalition ahead of the polls.
"Our Gusii brothers are with us. You people of Western, are you saying we should talk to the Kamba? Should we talk to the people of Mt Kenya?" he asked the crowd.
"Is there anyone you are saying we should not talk to? Let us all walk together in this journey until we meet Kasongo at the ballot."
He said defeating the Kenya Kwanza administration would require unity among opposition leaders and supporters across the country, regardless of political or regional affiliations.
