Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has hailed Kenyans for financially supporting the Linda Mwananchi movement, saying small public contributions have enabled the outfit to sustain its nationwide political campaign without relying on wealthy benefactors.
Addressing supporters during a series of rallies across Trans Nzoia County on Saturday, Sifuna said the movement's paybill had continued to receive donations from ordinary Kenyans, describing the contributions as a demonstration of growing public confidence in the initiative.
"They said we don't have money, but the paybill is bringing in money every day. I want to thank you for the many Sh10 contributions you have sent," Sifuna said.
"We don't need (government's money). We will walk with the power of the citizens."
The Linda Mwananchi team made stops at several trading centres across the county, drawing large crowds as leaders intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna was accompanied by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other leaders allied to the movement.
The tour comes weeks after Linda Mwananchi leaders endorsed Sifuna as the movement's preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, with Governor Natembeya tasked with leading mobilisation efforts across the Western region.
During the rallies, Sifuna urged Kenyans to support what he described as a citizen-driven political movement focused on accountability, good governance and public participation.
He said the movement was determined to demonstrate that political campaigns could be financed by ordinary wananchi rather than wealthy individuals or powerful interests.
Natembeya called on residents to rally behind the movement, saying the country needed a new style of leadership centred on the interests of citizens.
Khalwale also urged Western Kenya leaders to remain united as the region seeks greater influence in national politics, while Babu Owino encouraged young people to register as voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Trans Nzoia rally forms part of a wider Linda Mwananchi campaign that has traversed several regions of the country as the movement seeks to expand its support base before next year's polls.
The team is expected to continue its Western Kenya tour with a major political rally in Bungoma.
The movement has increasingly positioned itself as an alternative political platform, with its leaders arguing that citizen participation and grassroots mobilisation will shape the country's political future.
Sifuna maintained that public goodwill, rather than financial muscle, would determine the success of the movement.
"Our strength lies with the people. Every contribution, no matter how small, shows that Kenyans want a different kind of politics, one funded and driven by wananchi themselves," he said.
