Most parts of Kenya will experience dry weather over the next 24 hours, although scattered rainfall is expected in parts of Nairobi, western Kenya and the central highlands, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has said.

In its latest daily weather forecast covering July 17 to July 18, the department said dry conditions will prevail across much of the country, with only a few counties likely to receive rainfall.

According to the forecast, showers are expected in parts of Bungoma, Kisii, Kericho, Kisumu, Nyamira, Migori, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Trans Nzoia and Nairobi counties.

The department also projected rainfall in isolated areas of Embu, Meru, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Siaya, Homa Bay, Nakuru, Narok, Kakamega, Busia and Bungoma counties.

"Dry conditions are expected across the country. However, some parts of Bungoma, Kisii, Kericho, Kisumu, Nyamira, Migori, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Trans Nzoia and Nairobi counties may receive rainfall," KMD said.

Residents in parts of the central and southeastern regions have also been advised to expect intermittent cool and cloudy conditions.

The conditions are forecast over parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang'a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Kajiado and Makueni counties.

The weather department further warned of strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) in parts of Lamu, Kilifi, Garissa, Wajir and Marsabit counties.

The strong winds could affect marine activities along parts of the coast and create challenging conditions in exposed areas of northeastern Kenya.

County forecasts indicate that coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Taita Taveta, will largely experience partly cloudy conditions at night followed by sunny intervals during the day.

In northern Kenya, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit and Isiolo are also expected to remain generally sunny after partly cloudy nights.

Meanwhile, parts of Embu are likely to experience sunny intervals with a chance of afternoon showers, while Meru is forecast to have cloudy conditions in the morning before clearing later in the day.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised members of the public to keep monitoring official weather updates through its website and other official platforms as conditions may change.
