Nairobi’s Agave Affair

Nairobi's social calendar is about to welcome one of its biggest lifestyle experiences yet as the city prepares for the inaugural Agave Affair, a premium tequila festival set for July 25 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) Event Grounds.

Organised by Radio Africa Events in partnership with the KICC, the event promises far more than an ordinary night out, bringing together premium tequila, world-class entertainment, curated food experiences and immersive lifestyle activations in what organisers describe as Nairobi's first true homage to tequila.

As the countdown continues, July 25 is increasingly becoming a date many Nairobi revellers are circling on their calendars.

More than just another night out

Agave Affair is designed as a 10-hour experience running from 4pm until 2am, allowing guests to enjoy an entire evening of music, food, premium drinks and networking in one location.

Unlike traditional nightlife events centred around clubbing, Agave Affair blends entertainment with education by introducing guests to the history, culture and craftsmanship behind tequila.

The event takes its name from the blue agave plant, the only plant used in producing authentic tequila in Mexico, inviting guests to discover why the spirit has evolved into one of the world's fastest-growing premium drinks.

A new way to experience tequila

Although tequila is now the third fastest-growing spirits category in East Africa, organisers say many Kenyans are yet to experience it beyond the familiar salt-and-lemon shot ritual.

Research indicates that about 87 per cent of Kenyan consumers have only ever taken tequila as a quick shot.

Agave Affair hopes to change that perception by encouraging guests to enjoy tequila as a sophisticated sipping spirit or as the base for expertly crafted cocktails paired with carefully selected food.

Throughout the venue, premium tequila brands will offer tastings while cocktail stations showcase different ways of enjoying the drink.

A festival built around experiences

Visitors can expect a vibrant festival setup featuring a Main Tent with large LED screens, premium brand villages, cocktail bars, food courts serving tacos, BBQ and sliders, interactive installations and comfortable chill zones where guests can relax between performances.

The event also encourages attendees to embrace the "Agave Chic" dress code inspired by earthy tones, agave greens, linen outfits and boho-chic fashion, creating a stylish festival atmosphere often described as "Coachella meets Nairobi elegance."

Music from sunset until late

Entertainment remains one of the biggest attractions.

The curated sonic journey begins with laid-back Afrobeats during golden hour before transitioning into soulful Amapiano, Afro-house, timeless Hip-Hop and R&B before closing with energetic Afro-fusion performances.

Already announced are DJ Mista C, DJ Tophaz, DJ Big Chipi, Tha Daqchild and MC Kibunjah, with organisers teasing that more performers, vibe curators and surprise acts will be unveiled before the festival.

Bring your squad

Whether planning a date, birthday celebration or weekend outing with friends, Agave Affair is positioning itself as one of the biggest social gatherings of the month.

Individual early bird tickets are currently retailing at Sh1,500, while groups of five can purchase a package for Sh6,000 through Ticketyetu.

Earlier promotional ticket categories, including the Risky Sip Pass and Pour Decision Pass, have already sold out, reflecting growing interest ahead of the festival.

With more than 2,000 guests expected, organisers say those planning to attend should secure their tickets early and get ready for what promises to be one of Nairobi's standout lifestyle events of the year.
