The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has appealed to residents and voters in Ol Kalou to report any cases of bribery or corruption during the by-election scheduled to take place on July 16.
Speaking on Tuesday during a press conference, EACC Director of Preventive Services Vincent Okongo said the commission is working with other agencies to ensure the by-election is conducted free of corruption and other unethical practices.
"We appeal to Kenyans to report any form of corruption through our toll-free number 1551. Report such incidents to us as soon as possible so that appropriate action can be taken," Okongo said.
Okongo said the commission has deployed officers to monitor the electoral process and investigate reports of voter bribery and other corruption-related offences.
He reminded candidates, political parties and voters that electoral bribery is a criminal offence and urged all stakeholders to uphold integrity throughout the Ol Kalou by-election.
Earlier, the IEBC chair Erastus Ethekon assured voters and candidates that the Ol Kalou by-election will be conducted transparently, with measures put in place to ensure the integrity of the results management process.
Ethekon said party agents will be allowed to take photographs of Form 34A at polling stations and immediately share them with their respective candidates to enhance transparency.
"The results management and declaration process will be transparent. Agents will be allowed to take photos of Form 34A and send them to their candidates. Ballot boxes will be counted and results tabulated in an open and transparent process," Ethekon said.
He added that the commission has strengthened transparency measures to bolster public confidence in the election outcome.
At the same time, the IEBC warned politicians against violating the Electoral Code of Conduct, saying action has already been taken against some individuals accused of misconduct during the campaign period.
