The deceased, identified as Julius Kamundi, was found lying face-up in a pool of blood after the incident was reported.

Police visited the scene and established that Kamundi had sustained a deep cut to the forehead. He was also bleeding from the mouth and nose.

Preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage from the neighbourhood, indicate that the victim was ambushed from behind by an unidentified male attacker at around 6:10 am.

Police said nothing was stolen from the deceased, suggesting the motive for the killing remains unclear.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was transferred to the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to identify and arrest the suspect behind the attack.

Elsewhere, police in Nairobi have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 24-year-old Ugandan national was found floating in the Mathare River in the Kampala Ndogo area of Starehe Subcounty.

The body was discovered at around 11:50 am on Friday beneath a bridge along Mau Mau Road after a local businessman alerted authorities.

Police visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

The deceased was identified by his father, Moses Wekesa, as Dennis Kituno, a Ugandan national.

According to the father, Kituno had been missing since July 7, 2026, and efforts to trace him had been unsuccessful before his body was found.

Police said the body was retrieved from the river and examined at the scene, where officers noted multiple injuries to the face and a severe injury to the left side of the head, raising suspicion of foul play.

Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the City Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Kituno’s death are ongoing.
