‎The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has invited qualified teachers and tutors to apply for training as examiners for the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations as preparations for this year's national assessments gather pace.

‎KNEC said the training will take place between July and August and will be conducted in two phases, beginning with online learning before successful applicants proceed to residential training at venues to be announced later.

‎"The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will conduct training of examiners for Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination between July and August 2026," the council said in a notice dated July 10.

‎Applicants shortlisted for the programme will pay a training fee of Sh10,500, with payment instructions to be communicated through SMS and the KNEC application portal.

‎The council said those who complete the training will be considered for recruitment to mark KJSEA and KCSE examination papers, depending on staffing needs for each subject.

‎"Qualified examiners will thereafter be engaged by KNEC to mark KJSEA and KCSE papers using the criteria for recruitment of examiners based on the personnel needs for each paper," the notice states.

‎For KJSEA, the council is seeking examiners in subjects including English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Agriculture, Social Studies, Christian Religious Education, Creative Arts and Sports, and Pre-Technical Studies.

Teachers trained in Special Needs Education (SNE) are also encouraged to apply for relevant papers.

‎For KCSE, vacancies are available in Kiswahili, Biology Practical, Islamic Religious Education, Computer Studies, French, German, Arabic and several Special Needs Education subject combinations.

‎KNEC said applicants must be practicing teachers or tutors in the relevant subjects, be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or the Public Service Commission (PSC).

‎They must possess at least a Diploma in Education, have a minimum of three years' teaching experience, and be aged 50 years or below.

‎Candidates must also not be under disciplinary action and should be recommended by their heads of institution.

‎Interested teachers have been directed to submit applications through the KNEC examiners' portal, where existing users can log in using their CP2 accounts, while new applicants are required to create accounts before applying.

‎KNEC cautioned that "only qualified teachers/tutors who have presented all the required documents will be shortlisted for the exercise on a first-come, first-served basis."
