Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat has directed police commanders across the country to intensify operations against criminal gangs and illicit drugs as part of efforts to enhance public safety.
Lagat issued the directive today while chairing a high-level quarterly meeting of Kenya Police Service directors, regional commanders and formation commanders at the National Police College's Main Campus in Kiganjo.
The meeting brought together the service's top leadership to review security operations and outline priorities for the coming months.
Addressing the commanders, the DIG said their focus is on ensuring every region remains safe through coordinated and sustained security operations.

He commended police officers for their unity, resilience and professionalism in maintaining peace and security during recent national events.
Lagat also instructed commanders to take a more proactive and personal approach in supporting the mental wellbeing of police officers, noting that officer welfare is critical to effective policing.
He said commanders have a responsibility to ensure officers receive the necessary support to cope with the demands of their work.
"Commanders must take a more deliberate and personal approach in supporting officers' mental wellness. The wellbeing of our officers remains central to effective service delivery," he said.

He further announced plans to conduct inspection tours of the new Makado training field in Igembe, saying the visits will assess ongoing efforts to strengthen operational readiness and training capacity within the service.
The meeting forms part of the Kenya Police Service's regular leadership engagements aimed at evaluating performance, strengthening coordination and improving service delivery.
