A multi-agency peaceful disarmament exercise in Narok county has continued to register positive results, with two AK-47 rifles voluntarily surrendered to the National Police Service (NPS) as authorities intensify efforts to rid the region of illegally held firearms.

According to the National Police Service, the two assault rifles were handed over in Ng'edelel location.

The latest recovery signals growing public cooperation with the voluntary disarmament programme, which seeks to reduce the number of illegal firearms in circulation while preventing crime and enhancing safety in affected communities.

The exercise forms part of a broader government strategy to strengthen security in Narok county by encouraging residents to voluntarily surrender illegal weapons instead of facing enforcement action.

Authorities say the initiative also seeks to build trust between communities and security agencies while creating an environment for lasting peace and development.

In a statement shared through its official communication channels, the National Police Service said, "The ongoing peaceful disarmament exercise in Narok county continues to make significant progress, underscoring the effectiveness of sustained collaboration between security agencies, local administration and community leaders in enhancing public safety and promoting lasting peace."

The service added that it "remains committed to sustaining the momentum of the exercise, with the ultimate objective of strengthening security and fostering an environment conducive to peaceful coexistence across Narok County."

Police urged members of the public to continue supporting the operation by voluntarily surrendering illegally held firearms and providing information that could assist security agencies in maintaining peace and security.

Reports can be made at the nearest police station or anonymously through the toll-free emergency numbers 999 and 911, the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline on 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.

The National Police Service says sustained collaboration between communities and security agencies remains critical to the success of the exercise and the broader goal of securing Narok County against armed crime.
